Laughter of Your Soul

A Sweet Revenge poem.

The company of a friend, the laughter of your soul.
A rhythm, like the wind, controls where we go.
Electric blue eyes; yours dark, mine pale.
Bad guys and outlaws, together we tail.
But the glint of shattered glass, and the creak of leather.
Swiftly destroy our laughter; like the fall of a feather.

I can’t contemplate the timelessness.
The change in the air.
A shadow passes, distant and gray.
The earth stands still. I can’t move your way.
An unsheathed sword plunged deep into your core.
The sum of blood, I can’t believe. I try to ignore.

You’re a guest, at deaths backdoor.
No movement.
No breath.
Stale air reeking only of death.
My heart tries to defy what my mind can only know.
I say the painful words, ‘you’re dead’, but I can’t let you go.

A hero’s heart, a fighter’s soul.
You and I reaching toward that same goal.
Our friendship combined to create a powerful and magical force.
Staying together surviving life’s obstacle course.
The very depths of my being, try to hold on tight.
But your weak heart pauses; somewhere in the night.

Shoulder to shoulder.
Side to side.
Against gun.
Against steel.
Me and Thee, partner.
That was our deal.

I won’t let you go without a sound.
This silence of yours too loud, too profound.
I run the halls of pain and sorrow, feeling like a crumbled leaf.
The gauntlet is long, and full of immeasurable grief.
I rage against those who wanted only for us to defeat.
