In The Face of Time

A partner gives thanks.

We’ve been together quite a while now
And so much has changed over the years
But one thing has remained steady
In the face of time
No matter what, no matter where
Whenever I need you
You’re always there.

Whether in the harsh light of day
Or in the heart of the night
When the demons, both real and imagined,
Spring from the shadows of the streets
Or the dark corners of my mind
Fully formed and ready to play
You’re there by my side
Supporting, protecting, and loving.

Your strength has held me up
When I could no longer stand on my own
Your concern has shielded me
When my defenses were down
Your love has wrapped me
In the warmth and security
Of knowing someone cares.
