Hutch and Mrs Wilson return from a trip to the plant nursery.
Hutch groaned as he and Mrs Wilson arrived back at his apartment.
“What’s the matter, dear?”
“Starsky’s already here,” Hutch said.
As if that explained everything and in a way perhaps it did. Mrs Wilson chuckled softly at the inevitable teasing that was about to take place.
Starsky climbed out of his car and looked at his watch with an exaggerated motion.
“What time do you call this?”
“Sorry, Gordo, we got held up.”
“By hostas holding handguns?”
Hutch rolled his eyes.
Starsky held the door open for Mrs Wilson while she got out then he headed towards Hutch, who was now at the trunk of the car. He whistled as Hutch opened up to reveal a space crowded with leafy plants.
“Which ones are yours, Mrs W?” Starsky asked.
She pointed at a box of plants and Starsky lifted them out. Hutch took out three more pots and juggled them in his hands.
“Don’t forget these.”
“Thank you.”
Mrs Wilson went to take the plants but Hutch said, “Why don’t you unlock the gate to the yard? We can bring these for you.”
“All right, thank you.”
The three of them crossed the street carefully and Mrs Wilson held the front gate open for them to pass through. She unlocked the gate to the yard and the two men followed her through and deposited the plants near her back door.
“Thank you both and thank you, Ken, for the lift. I shall have great fun planting these out this afternoon.”
“You’re welcome. See you soon.”
The two of them headed back across the street to Hutch’s car. Starsky shook his head at the number of plants still remaining.
“They were on special offer,” Hutch said weakly.
Starsky laughed and slapped Hutch’s shoulder. “Of course they were.” As the two of them lifted the pots out of the trunk, Starsky added, “I think I’d better take Mrs W next time. You can’t buy any more plants! There’ll soon be no room for you in your apartment!”
