The Street from Silence

A visit to one of Starsky & Hutch’s locations.

The street that featured Hutch’s famous nighttime prowl alongside Starsky’s car in the episode Silence is in Venice Beach. When the show was filmed, this area was rundown, and if you can take your eyes off Hutch during that walk, you can see many of the businesses are closed.

Today the area is a vibrant tourist area right off the beach, with lots of tourist activity. It’s brightly colored and is often used in movies and TV shows. The columns that grace the curved arches (circled) are especially beautiful, with classic Art Nouveau-style faces carved on them. When I was there in 2009, I loved them and took many pictures.

The street from Silence (above), a photo I took in 2009, shows a busy tourist area. It’s still a thriving eclectic part of Venice Beach today.

While this photo is from 2009 when I visited, this building, used in Starsky and Hutch for the Dismas Center, is featured in many movies and TV shows because of its unique architecture, including the columns.
