Sweet Revenge recovery.
Episode related: Sweet Revenge
Hutch softly entered the room, depositing his guitar on a chair as he made his way to the bed.
For long moments he stood there. To the casual observer, he stood in easy peace. In reality, every ounce of his being was engaged in pouring his heart, soul and beliefs into praying to whomever would listen for the life that lay so empty on the bed; the life that so filled his own with every imaginable necessity, and awakened within him the dreams that were always just out of reach.
A soft sigh escaped as he gently caressed the emotionless face, then turned to pick up his guitar.
“Got something to tell you Starsk, so listen closely pal, O.K.”
Quiet chords filled the room and then he began to sing, interspersing his own words between the lines, his passionate voice telling his secret with wonder, feelings beyond earthly comprehension reflecting heavens blessing. He opened himself and allowed his discovered truth to echo through his voice. He didn’t hear the door open behind him.
Every time I look into your lovely eyes
The very first time I looked into those eyes Starsk you captured me and
Held me hostage
I see a love that money just can’t buy
Yes, I’ve tried to buy it every traditional way, but not from you, never
From you
One look from you, I drift away
Away from all the dirt, the failures into your special warmth
I pray that you are here to stay
All of my prayers Starsk; on my knees, humbled before a greater power,
Asking for the impossible
Chorus:
Anything you want, you got it.
There are no limits Starsk, all I have and am is yours
Anything you need, you got it.
What I don’t have I’ll get just for your smile, your laugh
Anything at all, you got it.
The journey to fill your heart will never end
Baby!
My baby to rock, to hold, to love, to cherish
Every time I hold you I begin to understand,
I never hoped to understand what dreams are made of, but you changed that
Everything about you tells me I’m your man.
Unspoken the love, but each touch chained me to your side
I live my life to be with you.
You so fill my life there is no me without you
No one can do the things you do.
You live life as a joy; you embrace it and give to others. All that is
Beautiful and good you share and my very own sun consumes me
Chorus
I’m glad to give my love to you.
I can’t stop it Starsk, it pours out of me and colours everything I do. I have
Been a better person because of you. I love you.
I know you feel the way I do.
How do I know? I know, within my deepest soul I know. You are there,
Always there, your every touch, look and silent promise telling me so
Anything you want, you got it.
Anything you need, you got it.
Anything at all, you got it.
Baby!
Tears of hope, love and promise had him reaching for the Kleenex box, and when he raised his head Nurse Karen Burroughs presence and tears surprised and embarrassed him.
“Ken.” She reached and pulled him to her matronly bosom, her strong hug just what he needed then. “Don’t give up on the love Ken. He heard you, God heard you and His power will answer your prayers.”
For the first time he gave in freely to the so tightly controlled emotion and wept like a child, a cleansing, purifying blessed torrent.
One week later Hutch again entered Starsky’s room softly. Often when he came Starsky was sleeping—sleeping, not lost in an unreachable void. He approached and stood just watching, a contented, gentle, secret smile on his lips. The smile grew and grew as Starsky slowly opened his eyes. He reached out to caress the brow and let his partner know he was here.
A barely heard sound practically burst his heart with thanks.
“Hutch…sing.” Was all he heard, all he needed to hear.
Seating himself he grasped his partner’s hand in his and again let the song speak, his whole being exploding beyond him to wrap them both in love.
