After beating the odds, Starsky and Hutch discover the depths of their love.

Hutch woke to the scent of sex and Starsky in his bed. It was 3 AM and he was suddenly wide-awake. Why? He didn’t know. After their lovemaking, hours ago, he should be tired enough to sleep for a week. But there he was, lying on his side, with Starsky curled around him spoon fashion. He could feel the warmth of the other’s genitals pressed firmly against his ass and a faint groan escaped his lips. This was definitely the way he wanted to wake up from now on.

Behind him, warm lips pressed gently on his neck and strong arms enfolded him. Starsky was obviously awake too and probably felt just as sore as he did. He had to grin as he glanced at the nearly empty tube of lubricant on the nightstand and remembered how it came to be that way.

“Mmmm… you feel so good, Blondie,” Starsky whispered. “Taste good too.”

“Yeah, I see you’re enjoying yourself.”

Starsky continued to nuzzle along his partner’s neck. Even in the dim light of the bedroom he could see the bite marks on Hutch’s shoulder and he kissed them reverently. He was sure Hutch had left a few telltale marks on his body as well…

“You all right, babe?” Starsky asked.

“Better than all right. You?”

“I’m great. Maybe even better than great,” the darker man teased.

“I guessed that,” Hutch chuckled.

They were silent for a short time, content in the moment of this unexpected awakening.

“Why did it take us so long to get here, babe? If I hadn’t almost died we might never have known this kind of love was possible between us.”

Hutch turned himself around to lie facing Starsky. He claimed his lips in a heartbeat, kissing him deeply; his fingers entwined in soft, dark curls. Then he sighed softly and looked into the familiar, blue eyes that sought an answer…

“I don’t know, Starsk. I asked myself that question too, when you were in the hospital clinging to life. But I realize now that it doesn’t matter. We’re finally here; we finally know what we mean to each other. The why doesn’t seem so important now. We can’t regret the past that brought us to the present. Am I making sense? I usually don’t have to talk and think at this hour of the night. It’s not the best time, you know.”

Starsky smiled and stole a quick kiss. He felt himself begin to stir as their groins rubbed against each other.

“Yes, you’re making sense. You always do. And you’re right, this is not the best time to be talking and thinking so damn much.”

Starsky captured his lover’s mouth, and for now, there would be no further discussion. They were together and happy and there were still hours left until dawn. Only soft moans and whispers of love rent the silence in the bedroom until sleep would claim them once more…
