Hutch is bone weary and doesn’t feel like driving, but then he realises Starsky is bone weary too.
It was Hutch’s turn to drive. Usually, Starsky would grumble about this fact but Hutch would insist on taking his turn and using his own car rather than sitting in the ‘striped tomato’ all day.
Today, he was kind of hoping Starsky would argue so he could capitulate and let Starsky drive because he was tired. Bone tired. When Starsky didn’t even murmur as he climbed into his partner’s car, Hutch realised that Starsky was just as tired as he was.
Hutch looked at the time and made a decision. He adjusted the route he was taking so they could pass by Peg’s, a little diner they’d discovered that did a good breakfast. As he pulled up outside, Starsky sat up from his slouched position, a spark of enthusiasm lighting his eyes.
“Hey! What are we doing here?”
“I figured we both need a little extra fuel today.”
Starsky suddenly looked crestfallen and reached to check his wallet.
“I’m almost out of cash!”
“That’s too bad,” Hutch teased. “Peg does a great breakfast special.”
He climbed out of the car and headed towards the diner. A second later, he realised his partner hadn’t followed. He turned back and leant in through the window.
“Come on, Gordo. Hurry up or we won’t have time to eat those breakfast specials.”
Starsky grinned and jumped out of the car. He jogged to catch up with his partner and clapped him on the shoulder.
“Thanks Blintz.”
Hutch nodded as he held the door open for his partner.
“Just promise me you won’t have anything stinky to eat.”
“When do I ever eat anything stinky?”
“All the time!”
