Going Home

Starsky and Hutch are reunited after years apart.

As he opened his eyes the beauty around him took his breath away. Although everything had a surreal glow to it, the pinks and blues of the sky against the majestic mountains gave him a peace he’d not felt for a very long time. The pain was no longer in his body; the sadness absent from his heart. Feeling, rather than hearing a presence behind him, he turned. And that’s when he saw him.

His partner of years past walking quickly towards him looking nearly as he had all those years ago. Maybe a little more silver in his hair and certainly a few more crinkles around his eyes with the smile that filled his face. But otherwise, the same as he remembered.

Engulfed by the strong arms and a hand at the back of his neck he heard the voice against his ear. A voice he’d nearly forgotten in the twenty-plus years since he’d last heard it. A voice he thought he’d never hear again.

“Hey, pal. Where ya been? I’ve been waiting for you.”

Barely able to find his own voice, he replied, “Yeah. I had a few things to wrap up.”

“I know. I’ve been watching.”

And there it was. He’d always felt something . . . someone . . . .

Now he knew. It had always been him. His partner had ALWAYS had his back.

He was finally home.
