Hutch’s dreams finally come true.
Night has fallen again, and here I sit welcoming it like a long lost friend. It seems I can only be me in the protective cloak of darkness.
No glaring bright light to witness my hidden thoughts and desires. No gloomy damp days to encourage the sense of futility my dreams always bring.
It’s not fair that only darkness can free my shackled soul and open doors only I hold the key to. No, one other does.
In the dark, no one can see the sudden sparkle in my eyes or the smile of pure delight thoughts of him bring. Is it a blessing that even I cannot see the wondrous change that so excites me as my dream takes shape?
I listen in the silence, and slowly the whispers of night carry to me what I most long to hear.
“You are mine. You are beautiful. Everything I have ever dreamed of. Let me love you beautiful man, let me carry you to ecstasy and bind your soul to mine for all eternity.”
My longings come unbidden to join night’s caress and once again I find myself enveloped in passion’s forbidden embrace.
Sated, I fall into night’s welcoming arms of sleep, content for the moment with fantasy’s glimpse of heaven.
It seems strange to me that daylight brings no regrets, no desperate anger at fates cruel joke. But I rise knowing that what I have will always be, and I will not lose what is freely given as between brothers. I can smile and greet another day of togetherness that far exceeds what I have ever had before. It is enough.
Then night returns and I make my slow retreat from day, but my shadow follows and holds back the darkness, forcing me to say the words in the reflected light of his aura.
And the night, which cradles love in its embrace, gives it’s blessing to a truth even it could not hide.
Again I hear the words, “You are mine,” while wrapped in the solid comfort of reality and I smile to welcome darkness.
