Starsky and Hutch receive an unexpected delivery.

Written for World Kindness Day.

The phone rang on Starsky’s desk.

“Hello. Detective Starsky here.” Starsky listened, his face growing more mystified as the sergeant spoke to him. “Okay, we’ll be right down.”

Hutch looked up. “What?”

“There’s something for us at the front desk. A package.”

Hutch grimaced. “That’s never good.”

“We’d better go check it out,” Starsky said.

The two of them headed out and down the stairs to the booking desk. The sergeant pointed to a box on the counter.

“What did the guy look like?” Hutch asked.

“Smart suit. Cleanly shaven. Looked okay.”

“Hmm.” Hutch leant in to see if he could hear ticking or smell anything weird. “Well, I can’t hear anything.”

“Okay, so are we going to look inside?” Starsky asked.

“After you, pal.”

“You’re all heart.”

“I know.”

Very, very carefully, Starsky eased the flaps open and looked inside. His face broke into a smile.

“Donuts! And chips and popcorn.”

Hutch peered in.

“There’s a card.”

He reached in and pulled the envelope out and opened it.

“Oh, it’s from Franklin. It’s a thank you for helping him get that job.”

“That’s really nice of him.”

“Yeah, it is. Let’s go share it with the squad,” Hutch suggested.

Starsky saw the sergeant’s face drop.

“But first, Jones help yourself to a donut.”

Jones grinned and chose one then Starsky and Hutch headed upstairs with the box of treats, both smiling broadly.
