sometimes
when you’re hanging on to me
for both our lives
sometimes
i almost wish
you’d just let go
things would be
so much simpler then
strung out along the
customary
lines of sight
black would be
black and white
something i wouldn’t have
to try to see
then as it was
and i could stop
hoarding
the different ways
that joy and anger break
across your face
i could be
prodigal
with the Stones at
sixty decibels and the
all right all right aroma
of Super Deluxe Combination
pizza
i could stop
wishing
for a little
curly-headed kid to be
uncle to
if
when
and again it will be
because necessity
is a heavy mother
and then i could
stop
understanding why
you don’t
let go
