The coolness of a garden night descends;
Hand in hand, in gentle reverie,
We share this haven from the urban air.
Behind these walls of glass, I feel more free
Thank I would feel beyond, for in this space
Enclosing, it is only you and I.
Secluded in this darkness, I now dare
To whisper words of love: so much depends
Upon our dual understanding.

Since
We joined, your very breathing as become
More precious; all my dreams cannot replace
The warm reality your presence holds.

The sighing of the night wind offers hints
Of tenderness—my love, should we attend?
(Surrounded by the silence, by the green
Of life, how could we not?) I love your cheek
Against my shoulder, how your arm enfolds
Me close, securely.

Softly and unseen,
We have become as one; and you are mine,
As I am yours. Together, linked our sum
Is greater than our separated souls:
Two tones to harmonize, two wings to fly,
Two tendrils reaching for the sun. We speak
Of vows, of promises, but they were known
To us before they sounded. In the end,
We have no need for words, nor use for prose
Of superficial romance; no planned roles
To play. I lean upon your honesty
And trust.

As strength is born of unity,
So we have woven tight ourselves a vine.
A vine, a miracle: one never knows
What path a vine will grow until it’s grown.
