Part 4: Always Enough Series

Written for the @twentyminutefic challenge. The prompt words were top and bottom.

Starsky rolled onto his back, resting his head on the pillow as he slowly descended from a round of passionate lovemaking. The blankets were tossed to the floor but his naked body was still on fire, quivering in reaction to the unparalleled high, his feet still flexed as they ever so gradually relaxed.  He could feel Hutch’s body radiating the same heat, his heavy breathing matching his own until it slowly, without haste, returned to normal.

Starsky cherished the sensation of being mellow and calm, which was just as exquisite—if not more so—than the intense pleasure that he enjoyed at the top of the climax only moments ago. It settled him down, giving him the tranquility he needed so much, especially today.

He turned to look at Hutch and noticed his blond forehead was drenched in sweat. He lowered his gaze and saw the white bandage on Hutch’s elbow, covering the cuts he suffered from the broken storefront window. He reached up to Hutch’s chest and stroked the spot where the kidnapper’s bullet had left an angry bruise through the bulletproof vest.

“It was close today. Way, way too close,” Starsky whispered.

Starsky tried to calm the unwanted shivering in his body that began to erupt. The kind that stems from dread and fear, rather than love and desire. The kind of tremor that flowed through him that day when he thought Hutch was dead.

“If I lost that smiling face of yours I don’t know what I would do,” Starsky added, his throat closing at the horrific thought.

Hutch reached out and wiped the sweat off of Starsky’s forehead. It was the first time Starsky noticed how much he was sweating too.

“I’m here, I’m right here,” Hutch said. “I’m not going anywhere. As long as you’re by my side, I won’t ever stop smiling.”

“What, are you a psychic too, all of a sudden?” Starsky said, trying to chuckle through his lingering fear.

Hutch leaned over and quelled Starsky’s trembling bottom lip with a kiss. “You’ll see, we’ll both be eighty years old and I’ll still be right next to you. Don’t ever doubt it.”

Starsky felt strong arms wrap around him and his fears vanished. It was everything he could ever ask for in life and more than he could hope to dream.

He settled down in Hutch’s arms and for the first time in a long time felt peace. No one could know the future, but at this moment this was enough.

This was so much more than enough.
