Part Eight of the series A Fairy Tale Life. Short stories spanning the years as the kids grow up.
Hutch looked down at the paper Hannah had brought home for him to sign. A permission slip for “health and sexuality” classes. Sexuality? She was only eleven, for Pete’s sake.
“Starsk?”
“Hm?”
“Did you have sexuality classes in school?”
That caught his partner’s attention. “Sexuality? What brought that up?” He smiled. “And no, I always taught the classes.” He dived to the side, missing the pillow Hutch threw at him.
“Hannah is supposed to take a health and sexuality class and I have to sign for permission.”
“Well, I suppose we’re past due having the talk with her.”
“You don’t think eleven is too early to talk about sex?” Hutch asked, getting uncomfortable.
“Not sex, Blondie, female stuff.”
“Oh, you mean…”
“Yeah, that,” Starsky replied. “She could get it any time, then where will we be?”
“Should we have something in the house…just in case?”
“Already got it covered,” Starsky said smugly. “In the linen closet in the hall, top shelf, back right.”
Hutch’s eyes widened. “You went out and bought feminine hygiene products?”
Starsky laughed. “You impressed?”
“Hell, yeah.”
“How impressed?”
Hutch smiled. “I could show you upstairs…” he thought about it for a second. “You didn’t go, you sent Cooper!”
Starsky’s face fell. “How’d you figure that out?”
“Because if you’d gone yourself, you would have bragged about it ages ago.”
“Damn, almost got lucky there for a minute.”
“Oh, you can still get lucky. But only if you’re the one to tell her where everything is.”
“Hutch, just sign the slip.”
The next story in this series is Passages Five: My Two Uncles.
