Starsky knows just how to push Hutch’s buttons.
For a 20 minute fic challenge using the words: roach and avocado
Starsky made a face as he looked across the table at Hutch’s dinner. Whoever heard of putting an avocado on a lobster salad? He looked down at his own perfectly normal steak. Good red meat—full of iron, building stamina, especially for what Starsky planned when they went back to their hotel room for the night. Too bad Hutch didn’t seem in the mood for anything more strenuous than a kiss—and with the stormy expression Hutch wore, Starsky would count himself lucky if the kiss happened.
Starsky was nothing but resourceful. All those trivia books he read would come in handy right about now.
“Hutch?”
“Hmm?” Hutch raised his eyebrows as he raised his wineglass.
Starsky slipped his foot out of his shoe and nudged Hutch’s ankle with it. Now that got the other man’s attention.
“Didja know that lobsters are called cockroaches of the sea?” Starsky said as he pointed with his fork.
Hutch stared at him. “They are not.”
“They are so. I read it.”
“Where? The National Enquirer?”
Starsky sighed. Obviously he was going to have his work cut out for him if he wanted to get any tonight.
“No, dummy. In Fantastic Animal Facts Volume Two. It’s because they’re immortal.”
“Immortal?” Hutch said. He looked at the lobster tail on his plate. “Guess this one ran into some bad luck huh?”
Starsky rubbed the arch of his foot along Hutch’s calf and grinned as Hutch took a big gulp of his wine.
“And they’re an aphrodite,” Starsky added.
“An aphrodite?” Hutch said. His voice had gone quiet and weak like it did sometimes when Starsky wound him up just right.
“You know, sex food.” Starsky leaned across the table to say it softly, the way he liked to talk to Hutch when they were in bed.
“An aphrodisiac,” Hutch said and wiped his mouth with his napkin.
“Yeah. That’s what I said.” Starsky put his foot back in his shoe. “And so are avocados. Sex food, I mean.”
“Really?” Hutch’s voice squeaked just a little bit.
“We probably should eat, babe,” Starsky said and cut into his steak. He put a piece in his mouth and chewed slowly. A sip of wine followed—he made sure Hutch was looking his way when he licked his lips afterwards.
Hutch seemed to have lost most of his interest in his salad.
“You’d better eat up,” Starsky said. “You know. Because.”
“Because?”
Oh yeah. When Hutch started echoing everything Starsky said, things were going very well indeed.
“I…uh…I’m not very hungry,” Hutch said. “Maybe I could get it to go. There is a refrigerator in the room.”
“Hmm…yeah. But I still have my steak.” Starsky cut the piece remaining into three pieces. “And I am hungry.”
“Hungry.”
“I might even want dessert,” Starsky said as he stared at Hutch whose neck was slowly reddening and not from the sun they’d caught earlier in the day.
“I might be able to provide that,” Hutch said and swallowed audibly.
“Oh really?”
“Really.” Hutch waved a waiter over. “Could I have this in a doggy bag please?”
“Was it not to your liking, sir? Would you prefer something else?” The waiter asked as he took up the plate.
“No. No. I’m just not very hungry at the moment,” Hutch said.
“Very well, sir.”
Starsky finished his steak, placed the napkin on his plate and stood up. “Ready?”
“Sure,” Hutch said and nearly knocked over his chair in his haste to leave the restaurant.
“You know,” Starsky said as they walked through the courtyard towards their room. “I was thinking a swim in the pool might be nice.”
“Uh…”
Starsky smiled and took Hutch’s hand. “Skinny dipping, you, me, the moonlight.”
Hutch tugged at his tie. “Um.”
“After you eat your sex food and get your energy,” Starsky said. He stopped, nibbled on Hutch’s neck. “I’ll wait for you.” And he grinned at the man he loved.
