Starsky and Hutch expected a quiet night with their girlfriends. Neither one could have predicted the way the date ended…

Written after a challenge between Kuonji, Allie and me.The theme was insults.

Betaed by Kuonji one of the best betas that I know…

“I’m alright you idiot, you can stop hovering now.” Starsky said with a smile to calm down his friend. “Even if I wasn’t, we would have just gone out together, like Butch and Sundance.”

Hutch had enough. “Don’t you get it meathead?” he shouted, “Going out together is not enough anymore. I want us to live long enough to see your curls turn to silver.”

“Hutch!” Starsky sounded astonished at the passion of his voice but a delighted smile had started forming on his lips. It was so sappy that if Starsky was aware of its extent he would have controlled it.

But he had forgotten about their guests, unfortunately they didn’t.

“Ken,” Kimberly’s cool and collected voice broke their concentration to each other. “I think that it would be better if we left. You and David need to talk, desperately.” She paused, “You have one of the most fascinating minds that I know, I wouldn’t mind it if we stayed friends or if you need my professional help my office is open for you.” She looked at her friend. “Let’s go Mandy.” She turned and left with the poise of a queen.

Mandy got up from her chair as well. She looked ready to cry but she held her ground. “Kim is right, you guys need to talk, but I would really like it if we stayed friends. You are always welcome to help me with the clinic, you too Hutch…” She tried to smile. “We were good together weren’t we Dave? I will miss you.” And then she was out of the apartment without giving Starsky a chance to answer her.

Starsky and Hutch looked at each other astonished. The break up was over in seconds. Hutch found his voice first. “Run after her you fool.”

“No,” Starsky shook his head, “She was right, it is better to be over. What about Kim?”

Hutch smiled. “You’re kidding right?” He grew more concerned. “I thought that you planned to pop the question?”

Starsky became thoughtful. ‘So did I.”

#######

They had met Amanda and Kimberly six months ago into a club. They were out to celebrate a difficult case solved and the girls the opening of Kimberly’s private practice. Things could have concluded like a usual pick-up and left to that if a drugged patron hadn’t started shooting in the air.

Starsky and Hutch subdued him without anyone getting hurt and returned on Metro to book him and write their report. They had exchanged numbers with the girls but Hutch wasn’t expecting much. Women never stayed for long after they learned that they were cops.

Still the sweet feeling he had felt when Kim had sought shelter behind him remained. Also and the fact that Starsky really liked Mandy and planned to call her was reason enough for him to try. He called.

The girls were more than amenable to go out with them and as they had come to know them things started developing.

Starsky and Mandy had clicked instantly. Mandy was a sweet girl that loved to dance with a big heart, honey colored hair and gorgeous doe eyes.  She was a veterinarian, very devoted and kind to her animals always trying to find shelter for the strays.

Starsky had confessed to him in the begging of the relationship that after she was forced to euthanatize an old and sick Labrador Mandy was crying in his arms all night.

Hutch had spent a lot of hours volunteering at her clinic with Starsky and had come to like Mandy very much. She never tried to force Starsky to spend less time with him she just found them work to do.

He appreciated that very much and he could see that Starsky was more than appreciating her. He was head over heels with her and planned to propose any day now. And why shouldn’t he? Mandy was one of the kindest persons he knew. Hutch couldn’t wait for the little Starsky’s starting coming to spoil them. His Starsk would finally realize his dream and he would have the chance to see him happy.

Things with Kimberly were a bit more complicated. Hutch liked her sharp intelligence, the fact that he could discuss cases with her and that she remained unruffled and continued giving insightful comments no matter how violent a case was. And yet at the first sign of danger she always nestled behind him seeking protection.

He more than appreciated her lithe body, long silken hair and that sinful mouth. The problem was that those sharp amber eyes weren’t touching his heart. He didn’t love her; he hadn’t loved any other woman after Gillian and he doubted that he ever could.

Hutch didn’t think that Kim loved him either. She probably loved his mind and body and enjoined his company but she was too clinical to be touched by the more sensitive or idealistic parts of him. His idealism had gotten a beat the last years but he wasn’t ready to hang it up yet.

Still, he was good with Kim. She wasn’t complaining about his job as she was also absorbed in her psychiatric career. She wasn’t having a problem with them spending time with Starsk and Mandy, as Mandy was her best friend since junior high. This meant that she wasn’t the total bitch she pretended to be.

All in all, Hutch could do much worst. His parents were going to love her if they ever met her and in the end it was better for him being with Kim, whom she understood and accepted what he had to offer and offered him the same, than being with a girl that loved him and to break her heart. Or if he was cynical about it, had demands that he couldn’t meet.

Even if he wanted children he didn’t think that Kim was going to be against the idea. She was thirty three; her maternal clock was going to start one of these years and even if she ended a completely aloof mother, Mandy’s and Starsky’s home was going to be a warm and loving one.

He had grown up marginally sane only with his grandfather’s guidance he was certain that his best friend and his wife would be glad to help him raise his children as happy and well-adjusted as could be. Hutch was seriously considering marrying Kimberly.

#######

Hutch looked at Starsky and tried to understand why they had gotten the boot so suddenly. It was supposed to be a just quiet night with their girlfriends, he mused.

But their day had been something akin to hell. Both of them had come a hair breadth away from buying it at the mall. A bomb had almost exploded in their hands and they were forced to detonate it, as there wasn’t time for the bomb squad. And if that was not enough they had to calm the clients after. It was quite normal that the incident had left them both wired with tension.

Hutch had thought that a candlelight dinner with their ladies was going to be enough to sooth their frazzled nerves. Starsky was all for it and upped the ante by suggesting dining in his house and Hutch and Kim staying the night.

They hadn’t done something like that for a couple of years, first with him being pissed, without even knowing why he was pissed, and then with the shooting. Starsky hadn’t wanted to go out, never mind double dating, for a long time.

Kim and Mandy were a bit more of a serious relationship than the one-night-stands they used to make love in the same house but, maybe because of it, the idea was deliciously, naughtily, appealing. It wasn’t long before they convinced the girls to it.

The problem was that after the day they had dinner was not enough into cutting it. Maybe if he had the chance to be with Kim before, and expel his aggression into her willing arms and warmth, he would have been calm by now.

Unfortunately with their hours and the paperwork they barely managed to be on their date in time. Starsky was expelling all that tension by being the perfect host. His jokes were leaving even the usually composed Kim in stitches.

But for Hutch the whole affair was torture. He was drunk into Starsky’s personality, at how lively he was. Yet at the same time he flashed at what could have happened to them: Starsky’s body broken, his beautiful eyes sightless, and he wanted to hold him and never let him go, or doing something worst, something unfathomable.

So he insulted Starsky. He insulted him any way he could, he insulted his cooking, he insulted his jokes, he insulted his brain, hell he insulted his taste in cars, even though that was so used it was boring. All in an attempt to express his feelings in a way that he could convey them in all their intensity without embarrassing Starsky.

Starsky got that and started insulting as well. It wasn’t long before the girls got annoyed but neither of them had any attention to spare them. Until Starsky made his brilliant deduction and Hutch lost it completely, that is.

Hutch could understand Kim’s reaction and he didn’t mind it much, but Mandy’s? It wasn’t logical a relationship that was going for marriage to break that easily.

A sharp nudge got him out of his fudge. “What?” He growled.

Starsky smiled unapologetically. “You were lost in your own world buddy. Where have you been?”

“I was trying to figure out why Mandy left you. It seems a bit harsh.”

“It doesn’t matter.” Starsky answered, maybe a bit too hastily. “It’s not like your prime queen stayed.”

“I didn’t know that you disliked her that much?” Commented Hutch puzzled.

“I didn’t think about it much. She was your girlfriend and my girlfriend’s best friend. She was going to stay either way. But now…” Starsky smiled brilliantly. “Good riddance.”

Hutch was mesmerized by those sparkling blue eyes. “Good riddance.” He echoed without much thought. He rubbed absentminded his arm. It was still tingling from Starsky’s nudge.

Starsky’s eyes darkened “What do you mean earlier Hutch? What would be enough for you?” His voice was low and there was something in his tone that sent shivers into Hutch’s spine, something dangerous.

Hutch gulped and tried to control his reaction. Whatever this tone was, there was no chance that it meant what he wanted it to mean. But he could confess a part of the truth.

“I’m tired from the danger Starsk. I want us still to be partners, be it in police or in a new work together, as in anything else, but I want us safe too. I don’t want us to die, at least not until we are old and crotchety and die together in the invalid home.”

His words affected Starsky far more than he expected to. Starsky closed his eyes tightly and a faint tremble shook his entire body. When he opened his eyes they were even more darkened, and as he walked closer to Hutch his steps had the grace of the panther that was stalking his prey.

Hutch continued to look into Starsky’s eyes and as he came closer Hutch could see that his pupils were completely blown but he didn’t have the nerve to check if Starsky was as aroused as his pupils looked.

Then Starsky was standing on front of him just inches away and his breath was caressing his face. “Are you completely sure about what you told me Hutch?” His voice was raged with emotion but so tender that broke Hutch’s heart.

“Yes,” He managed to say.

They both trembled openly by then, completely lost at anything but each other. Hutch felt like a small animal under the hunter’s spear. The feeling was ridiculous but completely apt.

Finally Starsky stroked his cheek and Hutch held it there. He could feel that Starsky’s hand trembled and he shuddered in return. Hutch could do nothing except closing his eyes and lean to that tender touch, surrendering to his beloved and praying that if this was a dream he was never going to wake up.

The kiss that he was waiting never came. Instead after a last playful pat on his cheek Starsky sauntered away.

Hutch felt his blood pounding in his veins. The damn imp! Or it was incubus? God help him, but if this was an elaborate joke for Starsky he didn’t know what he was going to do to him…

Starsky sat on the armchair and licked his lips and Hutch felt his mouth go dry. “Are you sure that you don’t want something more Blondie?” He opened his legs and not even less than the tightest jeans on the world could have hided that glorious thick erection.

Hutch was on him the same moment. He kissed Starsky like he wanted to bleed their lips, like they were going to die the next moment, like he was his whole universe. No thoughts of friendship or the future crossed his mind. The only thing he knew was that he wanted to eat Starsk alive by kissing every single inch.

So he did. Holding him by those beloved luxuriant curls he kissed him until it was urgent for them to breathe and even then after the first breath Starsky took his lips again.

Soon even those seductive thin lips weren’t enough. He started kissing Starsky on his whole face. He kissed his stubbled cheeks; he kissed the proud nose, his moles, his ears, his beloved eyes and eyebrows; he kissed the intelligent brow.

It wasn’t nearly enough. So he took the way back and started kissing Starsky’s sensitive neck. Starsky lost it completely. He threw his head back and let out moan after moan.

Starsky’s surrender inflamed Hutch to the point of madness. Without a single thought he shred Starsky’s red shirt throwing its buttons in every which direction.

At the view of Starsky’s chest a strange tenderness filled his heart. Yielding to his impulse he started rubbing his cheeks to the soft pelt, first the one and then the other. But it wasn’t long before Starsky’s hands in his hair lead him to his nipples.

Starsky’s nipples were copper and tiny. Hutch had seen them in all their years a thousand times unaffected. Yet as he was seeing them now he was filled with want.

He started licking the tiny appendages, first the one and then the other until they perked a bit. Urged by Starsky’s moans he started biting them until they were reminding him little erasers.

Only then he allowed Starsky’s hands to lead him down, into following his seductive trail. Hutch planned to play a bit with his belly button but as he get there he become aware that Starsky for all his control he was in serious pain.

With all the tenderness and the attention of his heart Hutch freed Starsky from his constricting prison. Afterward he studied him for a moment. It wasn’t the first time he was seeing him but it was the first time it was his to look.

Starsky’s cock was dustier than the rest of him, a deep wine color and leaking copiously. Hutch took a deep breath and stroked him. The thick organ leaped in his hand and leaked some more.

A stranger feeling gripped Hutch’s heart. It was something that he had never felt it to that extent before. Possession mixed with tenderness. He watched avidly as the bubble of precome in Starsky’s cock broke. Without thinking about it he fell on both knees and started licking.

Hutch heard Starsky’s frantic shouts above him to stop as from a distance. He didn’t give them any attention he was too busy taking the thick organ in his mouth.

None of the ugly epithets crossed his mind. He didn’t try to remember tricks that had been done to him to emulate them. He only followed his instinct. The only thought in his head was to please Starsky and to make him his in every which way, starting from this.

He expected the bitter taste of the semen. What he didn’t expect was how much he wanted that bitterness in his mouth just because it belonged to Starsky. Or the sudden burst of ecstasy from his own release.

After Hutch regained his senses he discovered that he was resting on Starsky’s things and that Starsky was stroking his hair.

Starsky looked as wrenched as he felt and Hutch blushed as he remembered everything he had done to him.

“Are you alright Hutch? You didn’t regret it, did you?” Starsky was frantic.

Hutch lost all of his color. “No, did you?” If Starsky regretted it he was going to die.

Starsky looked relieved. “Of course not, I wanted it for years…”

Hutch was puzzled. “If you wanted it for years why didn’t you tried something earlier? It’s not like I wasn’t easy?”

Starsky looked down. “I couldn’t Hutch, I had experience from before. It would have been coercion if I had tried something.”

“Vietnam?” Hutch quietly questioned.

“Yes.” the confirmation was all of a whisper.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” Now it was the concerned friend that asked.

“I couldn’t. It was different times, I was a different person. I wanted to keep you safe from that.”

“I see, but why tonight? Why not the year before? After the attempt I must have been obvious that I love you?”

“You were, but after I left the hospital you were business as usual. And in the end there is a vast difference from feeling to doing.”

“I see, you still didn’t answer why tonight?”

Starsky beamed at him. “Because, my beautiful blond blintz, tonight you said something absolutely special. So far we knew that we could die for each other. Tonight you proposed that we could live for each other.”

“Idiot! That we were living it for years before Gunther.”

“Maybe, but you were the first that voiced it. And before that, I didn’t have any right to show you my moves.”

“Moron! You didn’t show me any moves. I did all the work myself.”

“I know, you had to, for me to know how far to go. But now that I know…” Starsky left the promise hanging in the air and smiled devilishly.

Hutch shivered. “I can’t wait…”

Starsky bowed to kiss him once more. But Hutch’s hand on his chest stopped him cold.

“God Hutch, don’t tell me that you regretted it now?” Starsky was only half joking and Hutch hurried to reassure him.

“Of course not, Mr. Excitement, I just want to understand something before I lost my mind again.” Hutch got up from his place in Starsky’s things to control his excitement.

“My, my, what a compliment! Ask?”

“Why didn’t you run after Mandy? Were you that certain of me? She was going to be your wife for God’s sake?” Hutch didn’t even know that he was that exasperated.

Starsky grow serious. “Hutch, I love Mandy very much, but most of that love is because she reminds me of Terry. When she left me I did the right thing by letting her go. She deserved to be loved for herself and certainly better than to be third in her husband’s heart.”

Hutch passed back and forth. He didn’t dare ask the last question. But Starsky read it in eyes as good as if he had spoken it.

“You, Hutch,” He whispered it. “You are the first in my heart. Yesterday, now always.”

Hutch’s smile was brighter than the sun. And Starsky had to turn it into a half joke so he wouldn’t have to start bawling. “Now,” He said with a smile of his own. “Let’s go to my room to show you those moves.”

Hutch got in the joke immediately. “I don’t know Starsk, so far I heard only words.”

“Trust me on that Blondie,” whispered Starsky into the ear that was near him, the one that was hiding under fine blond hair. “You are going to see moves, lots of them, all night long.” With the last word he bit delicately that tempting ear.

Hutch shuddered whole, from the promise and the bite both. And he didn’t resist at all when Starsky ushered him to his room. But he let out a last comment for form’s sake. “Promises, promises lover boy.”
