The Shape of Things to Come

This time next year, Hutch will be in a relationship with Starsky. This time next year, Hutch will live with Starsky.

They’ll turn their house into a lovely home, and they will sleep in each other’s arms every night. They’ll create fresh memories and new traditions together. They’ll meet the challenging times head-on and emerge triumphant. They’ll build life foundations so strong to rival the pillars of the earth. It has already been set in motion.

Hutch won’t have to endure loneliness anymore. He won’t have to fret at the thought of losing Starsky to someone else. He won’t have to stifle his feelings, afraid they will ruin his friendship and partnership with the man who has always been his lighthouse in the storm. He won’t have to look for love in different flavors of poor substitutes, trying to convince himself they are enough to fill the Starsky-shaped emptiness inside of him.

Hutch doesn’t know the future. Mere mortals are not capable of such knowledge. This time next year, when his future will become the present, he will hold the happiness he never dreamed possible in the palm of his hand.
