I had an idea for a funny little 10cc/Starsky and Hutch scene, after seeing the cover of this magazine. Being a huge 10cc and S&H fan as a teenager and still am of course, what more could I want! I hope you like it, it’s just a bit of fun.
“Good morning Starsk. Beautiful day!”
“Good morning Pal. Hey Hutch! You’re full of the joys of Spring today.”
“Yeah I just got my 10cc concert ticket in the mail, they’re playing at Bay City Music Hall next month. Tickets are like gold dust,I was lucky to get it! Complete sell out I’ve been told.”
“Well I know you’re into them big time, I don’t know much about them. British aren’t they?”
“That’s right. I think they’ll be as big as the Beatles, they’re certainly as good! Creative, clever, real musical genius. You should give them a listen Starsk.”
“So you keep saying Hutch! You really think they’re as good as the Fab Four?!”
“Definitely! In fact I call them the Awesome Foursome.”
Starsky smiled as Hutch grinned to himself and repeated “The Awesome Foursome.”
“Can’t say I’ve heard much of their music Hutch. Oh terrific! We’re gonna be stuck in this traffic for ever!” Starsky grumbled.
“I was just going to ask you to play my tape. This is one of their best albums ‘Sheet Music’, you’re gonna love it.”
“Really.” Starsky sighed, but Hutch’s enthusiasm was infectious.
“I suppose it’ll pass the time while we’re stuck on the highway!”
“After hearing this album you’ll be hooked.”
“Yeah right!”
“Come on Starsk. Trust me.”
Starsky raised his eyebrows and couldn’t help smiling. Hutch was like an eager school boy.

“Do the Wall Street shuffle,” Hutch began singing to the first song. Starsky couldn’t help tapping his fingers on the steering wheel. By the time they got to the poignant ‘Old Wild Men’, Starsky could see why Hutch was a fan.
“Hey Hutch, this is a good album. I like the tracks so far.”
“Told ya. What’s not to like! You can keep the tape and listen to your heart’s desire if you want to. I have it on vinyl at home and several taped copies of it.”
“Great, thanks Pal.”
“You’re welcome. Feel free to borrow any of my other tapes, at least you can’t get them mixed up with a pizza!”
Hutch cringed remembering the time when his rare Buddy Holly album ended up in the oven, after Starsky mistakingly put it in, instead of a pizza!

By the time they got to ‘Silly Love’ Starsky was hooked! He was even sorry he wasn’t going to the concert with Hutch.
At the end of their shift, he dropped Hutch off and drove home. He thought he’d get a takeaway, have a few beers and listen to more of the tapes Hutch had given to him, before it was time for ‘The Late Show’.
“Man these are good!”Needless to say Starsky became a big fan and collected every recording he could get his hands on…

On the morning of the concert, Starsky came into the office singing ‘I’m Not In Love‘ and taking hold of Minnie waltzed her around the room.
“Oh Starsky! I love that song! They’re playing in Bay City Music Hall tonight.” She freed herself from Starsky’s hold and showed him an interview with them in her magazine. “Eric’s so cute!” She sighed.
“Oh you’re such a fan girl Minnie!” Starsky teased. “Are you going?”
“I’m going with my friend,” she answered. “I can’t wait! Huggy is going too.”
“Yes it seems everyone is going apart from me!” Starsky mused.
Hutch looked up from writing his report and thought he’d better put his friend out of his misery.
“Hey Starsk, remember last month when I got my ticket for tonight’s gig and how hard it was for me to get it?”
“Yeah.” Starsky replied.
“Well I really bought two! I figured if you got into their music like I thought you would, you’d really want to come to the gig with me.”
“Hutch are you kidding me?! You kept that a secret all this time!”
“Well you know me Starsk, I’m really good at keeping secrets!” Hutch winked.
Starsky didn’t know whether to hug Hutch or throw his cup of water over him!
“But they cost a fortune!”
“Well, you’re my Pal.”
“Thanks Hutch.” Starsky was deeply touched.
“You’re welcome,” Hutch said, patting Starsky on the shoulder.
Just then, Dobey came out of his office laughing.
“Cap. Don’t tell me you knew about this as well!”
“Well Starsky, it makes your surprise even better! Have a great time tonight boys and don’t be late in the morning!” Dobey said pointing his finger and trying not to smile. Then he picked up a doughnut and headed back to his office shaking his head and muttering…”The things we do for love.”………..
