Finally! Season 4 is about to be released on DVD! And there is rejoicing in the land! It was touch and go there for a while. And it would’ve been nice if the DVDs had been released in time for SHareCon 2006, but it looks like we’ll have to wait a week or so more for them. But finally we’ll have all the eps nicely preserved (if slightly cut). While Season 4 is not everyone’s favorite, it is mine. The boys have a harder, grittier edge, and Hutch definitely looks like he’s traveling the path of a burned-out cop. It’s an edge I love, so it’s no wonder that I keep putting out yet another Dangerous Vision.

For those of you who came in late, the Dangerous Lives, Dangerous Visions zines are based on a theme. The theme has become broader over the years, and harder to define, but when it started, basically, this was a zine for writers who produced stories that some fans might take offense at, or simply don’t like. Nowadays, it’s hard to find an editor who is restrictive, so the need for a “Dangerous Visions” zine has waned. This issue, while it still has its share of dark and edgy themes, is also lovely and romantic, with stories of humor, joy, and romance throughout. It makes the edgier stories seem to have an even keener edge.

Who gets to decide what constitutes a “Dangerous Vision”? Well, usually the writer does, by sending me the story. Some of the themes in this issue that are familiar to DLDV readers are death stories, partner betrayal, stories that feature one of the boys with a lover other than his partner, BDSM themes, and stories that are considered “dark,” or that don’t have happy endings. This doesn’t mean, however that DLDV zines are only full of darkly intense humorless stories not for the faint of heart.

The DLDV zines are notorious in one aspect—the dearth of LOCs I receive about them. Compared to the number I sell, returning comments are few and far between. To those of you who have contacted me (or the writers directly), I am very grateful. And I don’t mind at all hearing about what you didn’t like. An LOC isn’t meant to be about praise, it’s about commentary, the good and the bad. Zine writers in general get less feedback than on-line writers. Feedback feeds writers, so if you want to encourage more fiction, please consider spending a few minutes letting these writers know if you appreciated their efforts. Some of the stories in this zine have been years in the making.

As I mentioned, there is less reason for me now to publish DLDV, so I can’t say for sure if there will be another. I need to spend more time on my own writing these days and it’s hard to edit and write, too. But, if the stories in this zine interest you, and you’ve always been tempted to write that certain story that your friends never want you to talk about, I’d love to see it. And for those of you who’ve been asking, I’d love to put out another AU slash zine, Timeless 3, as well. Submissions of AU stories have been slow, so if there’s been an idea you’ve been playing around with in an alternate universe, get it written and send it in! I’ve got a great Lovett cover, but I need stories to fill a zine. I’m telling you, we need more leather codpieces in S&H! Go watch Satan’s Witches or Class in Crime on DVD and get inspired!
