Wha’d’ya want from me, golden boy?
All you gotta do is claim it.
Anything that’ll bring you joy—
Just name it.
Your sense of humor’s like none on earth.
Well, I can be dafter;
I can be anything that’s worth
The price of your laughter.
I’ve had friends before, two or three
(Never forget old what’s-his-name),
But this one tastes of eternity—
It ain’t the same.
We’re great on the streets. Our teamwork melds.
I shudder to think how much I’d miss it.
But I get the feeling there’s something else—
What is it?
I’d give you the moon in a frying pan,
Or a new guitar string, looped and knotted.
Give you puttees from Pakistan,
Plaid or paisley or polka-dotted.
Wha’d’ya want from me, sunshine man?
Give you anything I can,
Anything in the wide world’s span—
You got it.
