The Hit Man

The hit man in the garage from the episode Sweet Revenge reflects on his life as he stares down the barrel of Hutch’s gun.

Originally published in the Starsky and Hutch mixed anthology zine, The Fix #2 in 1988.

Never looked Death in the face
til I stood on the other side
of your gun.
Death—
demanding information,
riveting me with your killing stare
and that cannon you carry.

Can’t believe we didn’t kill you.
Never failed before.

I’m a dead man now,
so it doesn’t matter what I tell you
just as long as I tell you something.
Go find Jenny.
Kill her if you want.
But—please God—leave me alone.

Never thought Death
would have blue eyes.
