Poetry originally published in the zine Blue Eyes and Blue Jeans by Linda McGee in 1995.
I never meant to do it, Starsk.
I went over there to break things off,
to end it with Kira.
But I went and thought with the wrong head
Again.
Did you really love her?
I felt like
a two ton truck had hit me
at 100 miles an hour
when you told me that.
Then I saw red.
I just had to get out of there.
And I guess that’s why I did it.
Because she was there and you weren’t
and I was so mad at you
and a part of me—
a small, ugly part that we’ve
both seen too much of lately—
wanted to hurt you the way
your words had hurt me.
“There is a thin line between love and hate…”
