Introduction
Welcome, Friends….
Once again, I find myself in the happy position of presenting a new zine to fandom. Hey, this is fun!
SH fandom is food for the soul—not only because of the chance to immerse oneself in the incredible love shared by Starsky & Hutch, but because of the “family of friends” our shared appreciation of these characters creates. Through what other means could we have sisters around the world, close companions we’ve possibly never met? Most of my best friends are in fandom; the openness and psychological visibility is hard to find anywhere else. And because of that, I’m devoting most of this editorial to heartfelt paeans to the wonderful people who worked so hard to make this zine a reality. If sentimentality offends you, skip down!
This zine is dedicated to Friends:
Mary Louise Fisher—There are no words to convey in this limited space what your friendship, support, wisdom, emotional generosity, and wicked sense of humor mean to me.
Kath Moonshine—”TDoDM.” You know what I mean. I hope I never need your kidney, but it means a lot that you offered it!
Suzan Lovett—Artiste! Thank you for the beautiful cover. Oh, those blue blue eyes!
Freda—So nice to “meet” you! I’m proud to print your lovely portraits, and hope to see much more of your work.
Theresa Kyle—Shy flower, I hope someday you will believe how special you are. Your wonderful writing was a major contribution to “…TTF.”
“Sarah“—What can I say? You’re an important part of what SH fandom means to me, and a delight to be around (But, no, you can’t have the negatives!)
Tabby Davis—Once, I said there was only one “saint” in fandom. Honey, I was talking about you! I feel blessed to know you.
Elizabeth Lowry—Thanks for your immediate response when I said, “Hey, I heard from a fan who said she’d really like to read the story that came after “Foolish Dreams, Futile Hopes…” Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and for being you. You are a gift.
Monica Rose Kiesel—You’re witty, well-read, an excellent writer, and a good friend. And if that weren’t enough, you were also clever enough to find the exact wording and source of the title quote. Muchas Gracias.
Katherine Robertson—Font of information on Los Angeles, medical facts and police procedure, teller of fascinating tales, and keeper of the History of SH fandom. Glad you’re “still crazy after all these years.”
Rosemary—You wrote the first S/H story I ever read, and your contribution was the first in for this zine. More, more, more!
Peruvian Gypsy—You’ve done your part for years to keep SH fandom alive, and now you’ve surprised me with wonderful poetry when I didn’t even know you were a poet!
Sylvia Bond—Thanks for being so excited about the guys, and having such incredibly good insight into their characters. And working so hard!
MLM—Who could ask for more? You love writing S&H, and are every editor’s dream!
Betsy—Once again you came to the rescue with your trusty scanner. Hurray for you!
Debra—For agreeing to handle the printing of the zine, you have everyone’s gratitude!
And to you kindred spirits who want to read about S&H’s special love: Thanks.
LOCs: Please send them! The writers and artists have labored long, and your letters are the only “reward” they get. So, please, take time to let us know what you think. Send your comments to us, and we’ll definitely pass them on.
About the title: Well, it’s a paraphrase of the quote, “Love is friendship set on fire,” by Bishop Jeremy Taylor. I’d written a thorough yet needlessly lengthy explanation of why the title is a paraphrase, but what it boils down to is that I couldn’t remember the exact wording when I named the zine. By the time I’d found out, I’d already announced the other title. And besides, I like it better.
Now, on to the stories. Enjoy.
Linda

Teilbard de Chardin Quote
Someday, after mastering the winds, the waves, the tides, and gravity, we shall harness the energies of love, and then, for the second time in the history of the world, man will discover fire. —Teilbard de Chardin
